Director of Student Financial Planning

Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the Director of Student Financial Planning is responsible for the administration of all financial assistance programs and compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations. The Director works closely with the Vice President to optimize the allocation of institutional scholarships, grants, and awards to maximize enrollment according to the College’s strategic goals. Additionally, the Director collaborates with the Registrar and Director of Centralized Student Assistance to train and develop center staff who serve as the first point of contact for students, family members, and the campus community responding to questions involving financial aid, as well as registration/grade reporting, and student accounts. As a hands-on leader, the Director will manage the endowed/annual scholarship portfolio and Federal Work Study program; develop strong working relationships with admissions, advancement, business and finance, and athletics; counsel and serve students and family members; deliver educational programs and develop informational guidelines to demystify financial aid, outline strategies for meeting college costs, and enhance students’ financial literacy; and oversee all reporting requirements and other functional areas of a comprehensive financial aid operations. Continuing efforts to provide timely, efficient service while utilizing available technology and maintaining personalized attention that is the hallmark of the Emory & Henry experience are important priorities. The Director of Student Financial Planning will administer an annual financial aid program comprised of approximately $24 million in grants, scholarships, loans and annual awards and directly manages two full-time staff members.
A bachelor’s degree is required (advanced degree preferred). The successful candidate will possess a track record of progressive financial aid experience and in-depth knowledge of institutional, federal, and state financial aid programs, processes, regulations, and reporting functions. Additionally, the next Director must demonstrate supervisory and leadership experience, support continuous improvement and the ongoing professional development of staff, and possess the professional maturity needed to work in a matrixed organization requiring extensive collaboration and teamwork. Excellent written and oral communication skills, proven time management and organizational ability, and strong interpersonal and public relations skills are essential. Demonstrated expertise using an integrated information system and computer based financial aid awarding and reporting systems; evidence of strong data management and analytic ability; commitment to superior customer service; and an ability to anticipate and lead change in a growing academic institution will also be important factors in the selection of the next Director of Student Financial Planning.
